UT AgResearch and Education Center at Milan Receives New No-Till Planter

The UT AgResearch and Education Center at Milan recently added a new John Deere 1745 No-Till planter to its workforce. The new planter is part of a number of equipment upgrades recently taken made across our ten AgResearch and Education Centers located throughout Tennessee. The upgrades were made possible thanks to a generous $50 million in funding UT AgResearch received from the American Rescue Plan (ARP). This new planter has 8/15 rows which allow it to be used for planting 8 rows on 30” row-spacing for corn, then drop down the ‘splitter units’ and plant 15 rows of soybeans on 15” row spacing.  The planter is 33% wider than the Center’s old planter while will increase efficiency considerably.  Also, it will match the width of our new combine, which is always preferable.

The photos above show the planter in transport mode.  When it gets to the field, the tool bar will rotate 90 degrees to get the planter and row units headed down the row with the tractor.
