Major Responsibilities

Dr. Brown is responsible for the research programs of some 130 agricultural and natural resource faculty in seven academic departments. In addition, he oversees the management of our ten research facilities in strategic locations across the state. He represents UT AgResearch in the Institute of Agriculture, and coordinates with our partner entities -- the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, UT Extension, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Summary of Experience

Dr. Brown has served as Assistant Dean and Assistant Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, along with Program Director of the Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture Research Program and Co-Director of the Center for Tropical Agriculture at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. A professor of animal science, Dr. Brown has published widely in both the scientific and trade literature and has served in editorial and review capacities for a number of scholarly publications, including the Journal of Animal Science and the Journal of Production Agriculture.

Major Responsibilities

Dr. Oliver focuses on UT AgResearch programs by facilitating the development of multi-disciplinary faculty teams that cut across departments and institutions. He also promotes AgResearch relationships with commodity groups, agencies, and professional groups.

Summary of Experience

Dr. Oliver has served as professor in the UT Department of Animal Science for 26 years. During this time, he established a nationally and internationally recognized research program on milk quality and dairy food safety. He has served as director of the Tennessee Quality Milk Laboratory since 2006 and prior to that was co-director of the UT Food Safety Center of Excellence. He has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals and in the popular press. Dr. Oliver’s research and outreach accomplishments have been recognized by peers at UT, nationally and internationally. Among his awards and recognitions, Dr. Oliver received the 2009 Chancellor's Award for Research and Creative Achievement, the 2004 Gamma Sigma Delta Faculty Team Research Award of Merit for participation involvement with the Cloning Research Team, and the 2001 University of Tennessee/Oak Ridge National Laboratory Science Alliance Research Award. He also received the 1999 Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station Research Impact Award, and the 1995 UTIA B. Ray Thompson, Sr. Award for Outstanding Faculty Performance.

Major Responsibilities

As Assistant Director of AgResearch, Dr. Hodges focuses primarily on facility and construction projects at the Research and Education Centers. He has exceptional strength in this area and is ideally suited to provide leadership to these projects, assisting with the development of field days and special events, employee training programs for Center employees, risk management, safety and compliance, and other related activities.

Summary of Experience

A native of Tennessee, Dr. Hodges started work at the East Tennessee Research and Education Center as a full-time employee in 1970 while working on his BS degree. He became Director of the Center in 1975, where he remained until September 2009.
